Lime Plastering Company: About Us
The following is a short statement from the Lime Plastering Company's founder and proprietor about its history and origins.
I first became a City & Guilds qualified plasterer in 1981, when practically everything in plastering was covered by either sand and cement and Gypsum plaster along with dry lining techniques. External rendering finishes were all cement based, although they all had a background lime rendering background including finishes such as roughcast, harling/pebble dashing, the smooth sand face finishes, Tyrolean and K-Rend had just started to make an appearance.
Internally we used lightweight plaster i.e bonding, browning, hardwall and lime-lite renovating plaster all covered by Gypsum finishing plasters. Very little lime plastering was called for.
Initially, when called upon to carry out lime work, although it had been touched upon during my apprenticeship, very little was known about it. It seemed like two generations had lost the knowledge of lime rendering. Only older, time served plasterers were able to tell you about the mixing and techniques needed produce the perfect mortar to carry out the lime plastering properly. Very little literature was available. Basically, this led to our early work becoming a trial and error operation, where we learned and paid for our mistakes. Perseverance however, and a genuine regard for the projects we were involved with, led to us finally getting it right and able to achieve a consistently high standard of work. Since those early days, after a lot of research, hard work and with the experience gained, the Lime Plastering Company is now at the forefront of this country's lime plastering practitioners.
The Lime Plastering Company has an on going training policy, through which my own sons have passed, to become expert lime plasterers in their own right. I developed my own on-the-job programme, as the only training available were short course programmes carried out predominantly by lime suppliers. These courses proved largely inadequate for producing specialists plasterers, due to their short duration, although generally, they do provide good basic knowledge of lime and it's properties. Our training policy has been responsible for introducing a number of competent lime plasterers into the industry, whom we often call upon when a project requires a larger workforce.
Since those early days, our customer base has grown year on year and we now hold an enviable position within the industry. We undertake all manner of projects from public buildings, palaces and mansions to any small job that is required of us.
I feel that myself and my team of specialists plasterers can provide a complete and comprehensive service whatever the plastering situation.
If someone is just looking for lime rendering specialists who can offer expert advice, or a full on supply and fix service, please contact us and see what we can do. You will be met with a friendly, polite, no nonsense approach to your plastering problems. To all our potential customers, contact us, we look forward to helping you in the future.
Kind regards
Mark Holden.
